If you’re looking for an ice cream that ticks many boxes for those of us that are a bit more health conscious than your average punter (by choice or not), then I may have just found the perfect ice cream product.
I came across Cocofrio on a recent visit to Geelong Fresh Foods. I had started to see this ice cream popping up in various places and thought why not give it a try! I purchased it to go with a Dairy Free Strawberry Cheesecake that I was planning on making later than day and it didn’t disappoint. Apart from being fructose friendly, the choc raspberry ripple flavour I chose it also lactose free, gluten free, vegan friendly and certified organic. And if that isn’t enough to get you on board its also Australian made and owned! I’m an avid supporter of buying Australian made and owned products where I can in the hope that I can help support our local farmers and businesses.
For a 500ml tub I paid $12.95, which yes, it is expensive and I probably wouldn’t make it a frequent purchase but it was worth it! It had a lovely strong chocolatey flavour with a swirl of raspberry. The texture was lovely and smooth, and I do consider myself to be an ice cream snob when it comes to texture! My only criticism was that it did melt reasonably quickly, however there is nothing worse than trying to eat rock hard ice cream and I doubt that anyone is going to leave ice cream sitting in a bowl for an extended period! You can check out their website to check for a supplier near you or head over to my sweets section to get the recipe for my Dairy Free Strawberry Cheesecake.
